I woke up upstairs not realizing I was. Fell asleep on the couch likely not long after coming in last night - we had copious amounts of Bulleit at a private dinner hosted by my brother. By the previous statement most would assume I lead a pretty fancy life, especially in this age of online connection where people see yet a fraction of activities encompassing a mere fragment of your days. I assure you, I am not ‘fancy’ in the least, but I'm leaving the door open for it.
Disregard that last sentence - full stop - lowkey, I am fancy as fuck.
Digressing... Okay, I'm back.
I never cursed in my early music. Outside of it, sure in real life; I use all of my words. Still it took a number of years for me to cross the expletive threshold. Sometimes an artist's (I sure I'm not the only one) fear of offending their audiences or more so worrying about losing said listeners can stifle their full range of creativity and literal voice. Mind you I was considering the 'followers’ I amassed from the early days. I had actual ministers on my mailing list. A young community leader and public speaker as well as music maker and performer so I consistently garnered the attention and support of an array of humans from various walks of life. Add a period of my upbringing - let’s label the timeframe, “The Church Years” contributed an extent to some prudish behavior in certain aspects of my living. Rest assured my current adult self is with the shit as they say, over the years by choice relaxing and expanding my possibilities, I’ve exercised mostly all prude demons which latched on to me from my past.
C. where are you going with this? Well after waking up and making my way to the bed I believed I was already sleeping in, I checked my email. I received two separate messages regarding music I released on the previous day. The first was one stating my “Lonely Nodes” single was approved and would be distributed on the release date I’d chosen. The second message mentioned, “we are requesting an update for an album you have submitted.” You can receive a message as such for numerous reasons. In this instance I needed to update my album art for Fabric of Our Lives. Yeah, I had to slap an advisory on it. Crazy thing is it didn’t dawn on me to even do it. There’s one expletive in the song.
Also, this record is a doozy.
